Dark Russian Kahlua Cocktail – Kahlua Black Russian Drink

This Dark Russian Kahlua cocktail combines the taste of a Black Russian with vodka, chocolate milk, and cream for a great-tasting drink.

Here is another of my favorite Kahlua cocktail recipes.  I’m not a coffee drinker but the smoothness of Kahlua is a great taste sensation and this flavor has totally won me over.

If you also love drinks with Kahlua, keep reading to learn how to make this delicious drink in just minutes with my easy recipe.

I always find it interesting to learn about the background of the drinks that I enjoy.  The Black Russian first appeared just before the middle of the last century.

The drink is often attributed to a Belgian barman named Gustave Tops. He was working at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels, Belgium. Tops made the drink to honor Perle Mesta, the US ambassador to Luxembourg.

My version is called Dark Russian because of the Vodka in it and also because of the dark color of Kahlua.

How to make a black Russian drink with Kahlua

Most Black Russian cocktails call for just two ingredients – vodka and a coffee-flavor liqueur.

My Dark Russian Kahlua cocktail adds a few extra tastes to make it a more creamy and luxurious drink.

Chocolate milk, Vodka, Kahlua and cream with chocolate chips

This delicious cocktail could not be easier to make. You’ll need these ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 ounces of vodka
  • 3/4 ounces of Kahlua
  • 3 ounces of chocolate milk
  • 1 ounce of cream
  • a pinch of cocoa
  • ice cubes

Start by placing ice cubes in a high-ball glass. Add the vodka and Kahlua and stir well.

Top the drink with chocolate milk and cream.

You can vary the amount of milk and cream depending on how strong you want the drink. I like to use a tall glass so that I can add more milk and cream.

A tiny sprinkle of cocoa powder gives a nice garnish to the top.

That’s all there is to making this Kahlua black Russian. If you would like a snack to go along with the drink, it pairs well with my Bailey’s Irish Cream and Kahlua truffles.

Kahlua is a great addition to mixed drinks. It introduces a rich, coffee-flavored element with a hint of sweetness. If you enjoy it as much as I do, you will also like to try one of these drinks featuring Kahlua:
