What you’ll need to make crispy bacon in the oven

To bake bacon in the oven, you’ll need these ingredients and supplies:

  • 1 pound of regular or thick-cut bacon
  • 1 large 9 x 13-inch baking sheet
  • Wire rack to fit the baking sheet
  • Optional: Aluminum foil (to line the pan for easy cleanup)

How to cook bacon in the oven

Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). This temperature allows the fat to render evenly while crisping the bacon without burning it.

The best way to cook bacon in the oven is on a baking sheet. First, place a wire rack in the baking sheet. This allows the grease to drain easily below the bacon and creates less greasy bacon when the cooking is finished.

Optional: Line the baking sheet with aluminum foil so that the foil extends up the sides of the pan. This makes cleanup extra easy later.

Place the bacon pieces on the rack, trying not to overlap the bacon too much. You can use normal bacon or thick-cut bacon slices.

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake it for 14-25 minutes, depending on the thickness and how crispy you like your bacon.

Check the crispness after about 12 minutes, since oven temperatures can vary.

This oven-baked bacon method really is mess-free. Since the fat drips below the rack, you won’t even need to place the bacon on paper towels to drain when you are done!

A single paper towel placed over the top of the bacon will absorb any grease that is sitting in the hollows of the bacon.
