Do you believe that the birth order of your siblings plays a part in family dynamics?
I come from a very large family of 6 children, born and raised in Maine. I am the oldest, with 3 middle sisters and two younger brothers.
When I learned about Middle Sister Wines and their varieties of wines, all named after “middle sister personalities,” I just knew that I had to do a blog post on them and how much fun it would be.
I was given several bottles of wine as inspiration for this post. All opinions and text are mine.
Middle Sister Wines are Perfect for My Sisters and Me.
There is some common thought that being the firstborn, middle child, last-born, or only child may affect your behavior more than you might think. According to Parents Magazine, some traits of older and middle sisters are:
Firstborn Children
Being the first child in a family, firstborns often tend to be:
- Reliable
- Conscientious
- Structured
- Cautious
- Controlling
- Achievers
I have to say this pretty much sums up my personality. It likely has more to do with the way my parents raised me, than to any innate character that firstborns may or may not have, but I find it interesting.
Middle Children
Those born next in line seem to have some of these characteristics:
- They can be people pleasers
- May be somewhat rebellious
- They thrive on friendships
- Have large social circles
- Are often peacemakers
These characteristics also seem to fit into the traits that my three sisters have, to one degree or another. No one sister has all these traits, but I can see elements of them in each.
When I was given the chance to try out Middle Sister Wines and write about them and my sisters, I thought it would be fun to look over the choices and see which one suited each of my sisters. Since the company has 12 wines to choose from, I had no trouble at all associating one wine for each personality.
Choosing a wine to associate with each of my sisters proved to be both easy with all their choices. These are the four wines that I came up with first as a pair for my sisters and me.
But my sisters and I also have more than one personality trait that fits the Middle Sister wines, so some other choices were possible too!
- Middle Sister – Goodie Two Shoes Cabernet Sauvignon
- Middle Sister – Forever Cool Merlot
- Middle Sister – Sweet & Sassy Moscato
- Middle Sister – Smarty Pants Chardonnay
Meet My Sisters:
My sister Sally is a year younger than I am. Smart and Sassy really does fit her personality.
She is the perfect blend of kindness, with a touch of Sassy when she needs to be, and just as smart as can be.
She recently returned from a trip to Aruba with her husband Brian, and Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato is the perfect way for them to celebrate! And to top it off, she loves a great Moscato.
My sister Judy is the cool one in the bunch, but she is also what I consider a mischief maker. No one can make me laugh like her when she is talking about her antics!
She has a full life with her husband Dana and they are always on the go, doing one neat thing or another. One of their recent bouts of coolness was to watch the Boston Marathon where her daughter in law Kristen was a competitor. Go Kristen!
So which will it be Judy? Will you celebrate this milestone with a glass of Middle Sister Forever Cool Merlot? Or will your glass be filled with Middle Sister ?Next in line comes my sister Linda. She has the biggest heart, and has plenty of it to spread around to her three grandchildren, who just adore her.
Linda is also the “good girl.” She really likes to follow the rules (most of the time!) She recently welcomed a new member to her family.
Which will it be to welcome baby Blake Linda? Middle Sister Sweetie Pie Sweet Table Red Wine or Middle Sister Goody Two Shoes? And me! My sisters have always told me I am a bit of a know it all, so Middle Sisters Smarty Pants Chardonnay is a good match for me, (and Chardonnay is my favorite wine variety too, so it’s a perfect choice!)
But then again, I am the only one of my sisters who moved away from Maine, so Middle Sisters Rebel Red Red Wine Blend will do the trick too.
Ah heck…why not both? How’s that for being a rebel? Having both gives me plenty to smile about too!
I thought it would be fun to have a special dinner to celebrate all of my sister’s recent high points as well as a chance to raise a glass to toast my recent garden make over.
I have spent months transforming one of my garden beds (in 95º heat!) to a Southwest themed retreat. I love the way it turned out, and I am ready to toast to my accomplishment on finishing it (without passing out from the heat!)
In order to celebrate all of my sister’s and my recent events, I wanted a special looking table setting. My husband and I love antique hunting and recently found 4 full place settings of Corsica Rumba dinner plates and bowls.
We had not had a chance to use it yet, and tonight is the perfect opportunity.
And of course the star of the dinner: the Middle Sister Smarty Pants Chardonnay. It’s all ready to open, and the roses from my garden that were just picked today sets the celebratory mood nicely.
For my dinner I made some Cilantro lime Shrimp kebabs with basmati rice and a tossed salad with cilantro pear dressing. They are the perfect choice to go with the Smarty Pants Chardonnay.
The wine has some lovely notes: pear and citrus in the beginning, with baked apple on the finish. A perfect blend to compliment the shrimp kebabs as well as the salad. My husband and I raised a glass (or two) to celebrate my sister’s and my collective celebrations. I just wish my sisters could have been here to enjoy the meal.
Alas, they all live in Maine, whereas I live in N.C. I guess I will just have to bring some Middle Sister Wines to Maine the next time I visit! Salut!
