This holiday potholder mitt DIY project would make a great kitchen decoration.
It is also a great idea for a homemade Christmas Hostess gift for a person who loves to cook.
The project is easy to make and uses some items you may already have on hand.
Note: Hot glue guns, and heated glue can burn. Please use extreme caution when using a hot glue gun. Learn to use your tool properly before you start any project.
Do It Yourself Holiday Potholder Mitt
To make the project, you will need the following supplies: (affiliate links)
- 1 quilted plaid pot holder mitt
- Red velvet ribbon, 2 yards of 1 1/4″ wide ribbon
- A block of floral foam
- Pipe cleaner
- Fiberfill
- Cardboard
- Heavy gauge wire
- A wooden fork and spoon
- Artificial bird floral pick
- 2 Apple picks
- 2 Berry Picks
- 3 Snow cover evergreen picks
- Cinnamon sticks
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Stuff the thumb and bottom half of the mitt with fiberfill. Lay the mitt on a piece of cardboard and cut it to fit the back of the mitt. Slip inside the mitt for support and glue it in place with hot glue.
Place your picks and cinnamon sticks on the table and arrange in a pleasing manner. Cut the foam to a size that fits into the mitt and place the picks and cinnamon in the foam. Insert into the mitt.
Tie a multi looped bow and glue it to the top right corner of the mitt. Make a loop from the pipe cleaner and glue it in place inside the top of the mitt.
Inspiration for the project came from an old issue of Crafts ‘n Things magazine.
