The recipe has long been popular and has been modified over time but is basically a mix of simple syrup and lemon juice, combined with gin and club soda.

Fresh mint and lemon slices are often used as garnishes.  The drink is usually prepared right in a high ball glass rather than a cocktail shaker.

The Tom Collins drink is a refreshing gin sour that is an excellent sipper for hot summer evenings.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz gin
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz sugar syrup
  • 6 ounces Club soda
  • Sprig of Mint to garnish
  • 1 Lemon slice for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pour the gin, lemon juice, and sugar syrup in a collins glass with ice cubes.
  2. Stir thoroughly.
  3. Top with club soda.
  4. Garnish with the slices of lemon and sprig of mint
