Grinch Paintbrush Ornament – DIY Christmas Project with Paintbrushes

My latest creation is this Grinch Paintbrush Ornament. Yes, folks, it is getting to that time of the year.

This is the time when my mind goes into overdrive trying to come up with ideas for fun craft decor items to make for the Christmas holiday.

Keep reading to see how I turned an ordinary paintbrush into this cute holiday decoration.

This adorable Grinch Paintbrush Ornament will be a family favorite for years to come. It is easy to make with my step by step tutorial.

I have always loved the movie The Grinch Stole Christmas.  My favorite is the cartoon version since I am a kid at heart, but the film version with Jim Carey is fun too.

Either way, a recent visit to my local Dollar Store and a few paintbrushes later gave me the idea for some fun Christmas ornaments.

I reorganized my craft room lately so that I could actually SEE what I have on hand for supplies.  I like to use existing craft materials to make my projects when I can.

That saves me money, and also allows me to reuse supplies from older projects that I no longer display  Luckily for me, I didn’t have to buy much this time!

It’s time to make the Grinch Paintbrush Ornament!

To make these cute ornaments you will need the following supplies:

I started the project for the Grinch Paintbrush Ornament by painting the metal part of my paintbrush in a medium green color on both sides and the shank of the paintbrush in red with acrylic craft paint.

Once it was completely dry, I used the green color to paint the bristles of the brush as well to make the beard of the Grinch.  Painting the paintbrushes for the Grinch Paintbrush Ornament

The corner of a red napkin will make the hat for this Grinch Paintbrush Ornament.  (You can use red material and sew or glue the edge under so it won’t fray if you don’t have a spare red napkin.)

I cut it to fit the top of the paint brush and folded under the straight edge so it would wrap around the shank of the brush to form a hat.

Red fabric makes a Grinch hat

Once I had the hat ready to attach, I started by attaching the front part of my ribbon to the front of the paintbrush near the hole and then wrapping the red fabric around the shank and glued it in place on the back edge.

A small piece of polyester batting made the edge of the hat and a red pom pom went on the end of it.  Then I glued the last piece of the ribbon in place to make the hanger.

A dot of hot glue holds the tail of the hat in place where I wanted it to stay.

This is the basic template that I used for the Grinch Face.  You can print it out here

With my Grinch pattern handy, I painted the Grinch face on the metal part of the paintbrush and then added the small green pom poms to the shank of the brush.

My Grinch appears to be a happy Grinch, not a scowly one!  He must have been to Whoville already!!  (okay, okay…I never said I was an artist!!)

Add green pom poms to the shank of the brush and paint the Grinch face.

TA DA!!!  Here is my Grinch Paintbrush Ornament.  I actually made three of paintbrush ornaments yesterday (one Santa and a Snowman to come in later posts.)

But when my hubby walked in last night and saw them all…he touch the Grinch and said…”oh, how cool is he?”  I must admit, I smile every time I look at him! This adorable Grinch Paintbrush Ornament will be a family favorite for years to come. It is easy to make with my step by step tutorial.
