A Mudslide Cocktail Recipe is a decadent mixture of vodka, coffee flavored Kahlua and Bailey’s Irish Cream. This delicious Baileys Irish cream mudslide recipe is both a drink and a dessert. It is one of my favorite cocktail recipes for St. Patrick’s Day or any special holiday.
Making Baileys drinks will guarantee one thing for sure – you will get to enjoy8 that delicious, rich flavor of Irish Cream. If you enjoy creamy tasting Baileys cocktails to end your meals, then this mudslide drink recipe is one for you.
Bailey’s Irish Cream is a great stand alone drink. The liqueur has a creamy taste that is slightly sweet with an after taste of the alcohol. It’s like a decadent coffee creamer!
However, add in a few more ingredients and you will have a cocktail that will be sure to become a favorite any time of the year.

This drink fits into the category of decadent cocktails. I had one for the first time a few years ago when visiting my daughter at Greensboro University and have been hooked ever since.
A mudslide is the perfect choice for a rich and creamy cocktail for a girl’s night in. It also makes a great dessert cocktail for those times when you still want to keep drinking but are looking for something sweet and dreamy to end a meal.
Bailey’s makes a mudslide drink that is pre-made but it can get expensive to make the cocktail this way. This recipe gives you more bang for your dollar and is simple to make.
It has all the flavor of the retail mix but at much lower cost to you.
Ingredients for Mudslide
To make the mudslide drink recipe at home all you need are a few ingredients:
- Bailey’s Irish Cream
- Schmirnoff vodka
- A Coffee liqueur such as Kahlua or Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
- Optional: chocolate syrup and whipped cream for drizzling and garnishing the glass
Making the mudslide recipe
Add the Kahlua, Bailey’s and Vodka to a cocktail shaker over ice, give it a good shake and then strain the mixture into a glass.
I like to use a cocktail shaker for most of my mixed drinks. The metal of a cocktail shaker will make sure that the drink is extra cold and shaking it will ensure that the ingredients are mixed perfectly.
Turning the drink into a chocolate mudslide cocktail
For an extra fun look that will make you feel like a professional barista, drizzle the glass with chocolate first.
Just melt some chocolate and add it to a piping bag and drizzle it over the inside of a glass. Place the glass in the freezer for a while to set and then add your Mudslide cocktail ingredients.
If you don’t have the time (or inclination) to pipe and freeze the chocolate, just drizzle the chocolate inside the glass in a haphazard way.
The lines won’t be a sharp but the drink will still taste great!
How does a Bailey’s mudslide cocktail taste?
This mudslide cocktail is so rich and creamy. The mixture of the Bailey’s and chocolate liqueur go together beautifully with the vodka to make a decadent cocktail experience.
If you want even more decadence, serve it in a drizzled martini glass with some extra whipped cream for a drink that will make you think you are having dessert!
You will get an extra dose of chocolate from the chocolate in the glass and some extra creaminess from the whipped cream.
If you like the taste of Bailey’s Irish Cream, why not enjoy them with some Bailey’s Irish Cream truffles. Then you get both a cocktail AND a dessert.

Notes
This drink is adapted slightly from Bailey's Recipes.
The calorie count is for the drink in a plain glass. If you drizzle the glass it adds an extra 16 calories to the drink for 1 teaspoon of chocolate syrup. If you add whip cream from an aerosol can, it also adds another 20 calories.
