Mudslide Cocktail Recipe – Baileys Irish Cream Mudslide

A Mudslide cocktail recipe is a decadent mixture of vodka, coffee-flavored Kahlua, and Bailey’s Irish Cream.

This delicious Baileys Irish cream mudslide recipe is both a drink and a dessert. It is one of my favorite cocktail recipes for St. Patrick’s Day, Christmas, or any special holiday.

Making Bailey’s drinks will guarantee one thing for sure – you will get to enjoy that delicious, rich flavor of Irish Cream.

If you enjoy creamy-tasting Baileys cocktails to end your meals, then this mudslide drink recipe is one for you.

What is Bailey’s Irish Cream?

Bailey’s Irish Cream is a liqueur flavored with cream, cocoa, and Irish whiskey.

Contrary to popular belief, Baileys is not actually an official ingredient in traditional Irish Coffee. Normally, that recipe calls for Irish whiskey, simple syrup, coffee, and cream.

However, there is a popular Irish cream coffee recipe that calls for Baileys Irish Cream, hot coffee, Irish whiskey, and whipped cream so I often drink Irish coffee that way.

Did you know that Irish coffee wouldn’t exist without flying boats, a humorous chef, & bad weather? Find out more about the history of Irish Coffee here.

What to mix with Bailey’s

Bailey’s Irish Cream is a great stand-alone drink. The liqueur has a creamy taste that is slightly sweet with an aftertaste of the alcohol. It’s like a decadent coffee creamer!

I love having a small glass of Bailey’s after dinner during the Christmas holidays or mixed into cocktails for a creamy finish to a meal on St. Patrick’s Day.

However, add in a few more ingredients and you will have a cocktail that will be sure to become a favorite any time of the year. There are so many ways to combine Bailey’s to make creamy drinks.

Baileys can be easily mixed with all manner of beverages to make a simple, creamy drink.

Some popular things to mix with Bailey’s Irish cream are:

  • coffee
  • ice cream
  • cold brew
  • hot chocolate
  • tea
  • and of course, many liqueurs go great with Bailey’s

Let your taste buds guide you, but don’t mix Baileys with a lot of citric acid, because this can make it curdle.

Using Baileys Irish Cream in cocktails

There are many delicious cocktails that can be made with Baileys.

Baileys Irish Cream recipes like this mudslide are the perfect choice for rich and creamy cocktails for a girl’s night in.

It also makes a great dessert cocktail for those times when you still want to keep drinking but are looking for something sweet and dreamy to end a meal.

Bailey’s makes a mudslide drink that is pre-made but it can get expensive to make the cocktail this way. This recipe gives you more bang for your dollar and is simple to make.

It has all the flavor of the retail mix but at a much lower cost to you.

More drink recipes using Baileys Irish Cream

A mudslide cocktail is not the only Baileys Irish Cream drink. There are many more to try. It is a very popular drink around St. Patrick’s Day because of the Irish connection.

Some are perfect for other holidays, too.

Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur is not just for cocktails. I also love to use it in sweet treat recipes. See my Bailey’s Irish Cream Fudge and these Baileys Irish Cream Brownies, as well.

You can use purchased Bailey’s Irish cream, or make your own! I have a recipe for homemade Baileys Irish Cream here.

This mudslide recipe fits into the category of decadent cocktails. I had one for the first time a few years ago when visiting my daughter at Greensboro University and have been hooked ever since.

Ingredients for the mudslide recipe

To make the mudslide drink recipe at home all you need are a few ingredients:

  • Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • Smirnoff vodka
  • A Coffee liqueur such as Kahlua or Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
  • Optional: chocolate syrup and whipped cream for drizzling and garnishing the glass

Making the mudslide recipe

Add the Kahlua, Bailey’s, and Vodka to a cocktail shaker over ice, give it a good shake, and then strain the mixture into a glass.

I like to use a cocktail shaker for most of my mixed drinks.

The metal of a cocktail shaker will make sure that the drink is extra cold and shaking it will ensure that the ingredients are mixed perfectly.

Turning the drink into a chocolate mudslide cocktail

For an extra fun look that will make you feel like a professional barista, drizzle the glass with chocolate first.

Just melt some chocolate, add it to a piping bag, and drizzle it over the inside of a glass. Place the glass in the freezer for a while to set and then add your Mudslide cocktail ingredients.

If you don’t have the time (or inclination) to pipe and freeze the chocolate, just drizzle the chocolate inside the glass in a haphazard way.

The lines won’t be as sharp but the drink will still taste great!

How does a Bailey’s mudslide cocktail taste?

This mudslide cocktail is so rich and creamy. The mixture of the Bailey’s and chocolate liqueur goes together beautifully with the vodka to make a decadent cocktail experience.Baileys mudslide cocktail in chocolate drizzled glass with whipped cream.

If you want even more decadence, serve it in a drizzled martini glass with some extra whipped cream for a drink that will make you think you are having dessert!

You will get an extra dose of chocolate from the chocolate in the glass and some extra creaminess from the whipped cream.

If you like the taste of Bailey’s Irish Cream, why not enjoy them with some Bailey’s Irish Cream truffles? Then you get both a cocktail AND a dessert.
